BINF 2500 - Introduction to BioinformaticsBIOL 3250 This interdisciplinary course will introduce concepts in the application of computational approaches to solving problems in biology. Topics include basic principles of molecular biology, DNA/RNA sequencing, global, local and multiple sequence alignment, use of web databases, sequence assembly, and phylogenetics. Other topics will include methods to computationally find genomic abnormalities. The course will also provide a basic introduction to algorithmic approaches to implementing bioinformatics solutions. Prerequisite(s): BIOL 1240 and BIOL 1240L with a grade of ‘C’ or better. (3)
