IBTH 5700 - Major Themes in Black Religious Experience

Utilizing various methods, including phenomenology and historical method, this course offers an interdisciplinary inquiry into the religious experience. Drawing on traditional African religions, the emergence of “slave” religion, conversion narratives, and spirituals, the course defines and establishes religious experience as the ground of spirituality.
